Kids dressed up at Lucky Duck Farm Kids milking a goat Apples falling from the tree
The Lucky Duck Farm is specifically designed for children to explore, discover and learn through play.  All areas of the exhibit are design for young children to engage in play over and over again.  The Farm will be on display till 2011 with updates and new activities throughout this period.

The Lucky Duck Farm features:

  • The Orchard area: has balls and tubes that children can rearrange.
  • The Farmhouse: a child size house with a fully stocked kitchen.
  • The Barn and Tractor area: allows play with the cows, horses, or goat, dress up in animal or farm costumes or read books about farms in the hayloft.

Playing in Lucky Duck Farm allows parents and children a variety of play opportunities.  Open-ended activities encourage imaginary play.  Simple open-ended materials are “loose parts” which inspire creativity and allow many children to create their own unique play experiences.  Imaginative, or pretend play, is especially important for learning and expressing new ideas and emotions, trying out new skills, and developing empathy for others.

Baby playing at the Baby ZoneThe Baby Zone is an exhibit for visitors from 0 to 18 months of age. In this aquatic- and nature-themed area, your baby can practice rolling, crawling, climbing, cruising and all-around play in a safe environment. This exhibit is sponsored by Placer County and Desmond & Alison Elder.

Our Creative Center has exploratory art activities for you and your child any time the museum is open. In this self-service area, visitors have access to washable paints, markers, crayons, paper in many sizes and colors. Children will also enjoy using play clay and implements. We also offer classes in the center, such as Messy Art and Wonder Science.

Child at the top of the Jungle GymThe Jungle Gym play structure has a slide and climbing wall. It's a great place for kids to use up all that energy. During winter, this exhibit does wonders for your child's gross motor skills! The stairs to the slide are easy enough for younger visitors to navigate.
