The KidZone Museum is currently operating on Winter Hours

Tuesday - Friday: 10am - 5pm

Saturday & Sunday: 10am - 1:30pm.

Closed Mondays.

Winter hours run through Memorial Day.

We have changed our Saturday winter hours to accommodate a rise in visitation and a need to have birthday parties without impacting regular visitor hours. Birthday's bring in about $5,000-10,000 a year. We need this income to thrive. This year we have lost some revenue like eScrip donations (@$15,000). We have to find creative ways to serve everyone, and still be a sustainable organization. The good news is, we will have members only hours one Saturday a month that will include special programs. In addition we have funding to bring amazing science activities to the Museum. We appreciate your patronage and understanding.

Please Note:

  • We try to remain open during all weather conditions.
  • We are also closed on some (but not all!) holidays - please check the calendar for details.
  • Our exhibits are designed for children age six and under.

Visitation Advisory

During our winter hours when we are open until 5pm, we strongly encourage you to visit with your children age 6 and older after 1pm. However, children of all ages are encouraged to attend Museum special family events. Children under 6 years of age are welcome anytime.

*Parents who visit with children who are sick will be asked to leave.

The KidZone Museum is located at 11711 Donner Pass Road, in Truckee, California - 15 miles north of Lake Tahoe. Our building is the large white dome between the high school and the fire station on Donner Pass Road.

Directions From Reno: Take I-80 West to the Donner Park exit. Turn right onto Donner Pass Road heading east. Follow Donner Pass Road past the traffic light at Northwoods. Make the first right after the High School on the right. Follow road around the left curve. KidZone Museum is on the right.

Directions From Sacramento: Take I-80 East to the Donner Park exit. Turn left onto Donner Pass Road heading east. Follow Donner Pass Road past the traffic light at Northwoods. Make the first right after the High School on the right. Follow road around the left curve. KidZone Museum is on the right.

Directions From Tahoe City, Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows: Take 89 North into Truckee. Make a left onto Donner Pass Road heading west. Make the first left after the fire station. Make the first right after the sports field. KidZone Museum is on the left.
Directions From Kings Beach, Northstar: Take 267 North. Follow signs to I-80. Continue over the bridge and past I-80. Follow signs to Truckee. This will be a left onto Donner Pass Road after I-80. Take Donner Pass Road through Downtown and past 89. Make the first left after the fire station. Make the first right after the sports field. KidZone Museum is on the left.
