Volunteer - It's How the Work Gets Done!
The KidZone Museum has a strong tradition of relying on volunteers. We would not be able to offer many of the activities and the level of satisfaction that we do without them. The Board of Directors of the KidZone Museum is also a committed group of volunteers. Representatives of this group are parents, attorneys, child development specialists and nonprofit professionals. Tenure on the Board has tended to be long, with some members remaining involved for many years - which demonstrates the level of commitment. We also strongly rely on our committed group of donors as well as our grant sources to be able to keep the doors open and to fund the projects to help our children explore, discover and learn. Please click here to view the Volunteer Manual. KidZone Museum Volunteer Opportunities 2010 Welcome and Thank You!! July 18-August 20, 4-7:30pm Every Thursday, downtown Truckee will be the epicenter of music, art, children’s entertainment, outdoor activities, shopping, and restaurant sampling. KidZone Museum volunteers manage our booth and educate the public about the KidZone Museum. Volunteers also help face paint and oversee fun activities for children. Please click here to sign-up to help. 2. The KidZone Festival at Regional Park aka the “SALTY” GEBHARDT AMPHITHEATRE August 29, 9am-4pm Volunteers help with various children's activities at this family friendly event that will benefit the KidZone Museum. If you would like to help us with the planning please come to the Friends of the KidZone Museum planning meetings. 3. Summer Farm Camp Assistant (click link to see camp dates) Farm Camp is for children ages 3-5 years old. We visit various farm related places in Truckee and host activities at the Museum. We have 4 week-long day sessions this summer. Camp Assistants will be fingerprinted so they can help the teacher supervise children during this very fun camp. 4. Sierra Watershed Camp Assistant 5. Exhibits Committee Member for 2010-2011 Exhibits Committee members help us plan our exhibits. Currently 10 parents designed, created and implemented Lucky Duck Farm. We provide educational and structural guidelines and procedures and you provide the creativity! Great way to meet some fascinating folks in our community. Next, we need to design a simple outdoor play area. 6. Museum Docent We need help during our busy hours from 10am–Noon, during special events and regularly on Saturday, Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday. We need a volunteer or two to help in the art room setting up and cleaning up art activities. We need help in the exhibit area ensuring items are put back in their place so children can play with them. 7. Friends of the KidZone Museum Committee Member Friends help plan fundraising events and go to events that help us showcase what the Museum provides for our community. Both objectives help sustain the Museum by introducing our programs to possible new members, donors and volunteers. Another great way to meet some skilled, creative and inspiring people in our community. 8. Landscaping/Gardening (now) Have you had a peak at our planter boxes, garden and row boat lately? It is a sad affair. Also, our wall could use repair as the bricks are falling apart. This is a one shot deal of probably 40 hours of time that could be split between a few willing folks. 9. Trails and Vistas Art Hike for Children September 11-12 We are partnering with Trails to provide a creative visual and musical hike for children. You must be available the weekend of the event, September 11-12, and for 2 other days (TBA) for hike orientation. Some volunteers are needed as hike leaders. If you have an interest in helping with the creative planning contact Carol Meagher directly. 10. Be a member of the Capital Campaign Committee! The KidZone is starting the process to raise money and resources to get a bigger building! Do you have grand ideas? Do you have experience with capital campaigns? Or are you just excited to see the KidZone grow? If you are interested in starting with this brand new committee please contact Meghan Maciel. 11. The Outdoor Play Area Committee This committee is an offshoot of our illustrious Exhibits Committee. We would like to create an outdoor play area outside the current structure. If you are interested in helping out with this committee, please contact Liz Bordner at 587-KIDS(5437). 12. Regular On-going Jobs Administrative help weekly, grant research, editing, maintenance and cleaning. Training is provided for all the positions listed. Volunteer training will be held every third Wednesday from 12-1pm and as needed. Please feel free to email Meghan Maciel or call 530-448-9719 with any questions.
